If you are an adventure lover with lots of trekking experience and want to take your trekking to the next level of difficulty then Chadar Frozen River Trek is the place for you. Chadar Frozen River (11,123 ft) is located in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir.
Trekking to Chadar Frozen River requires full nine days and for trekking first day you need to come to Leh by flight. You will feel very cold once you reach Leh as the temperature there would be around -10 to -15. The second day you will move further towards Chilling through a 3hours drive. While driving to Chilling you will go through Pishu village of Zanskar. Once you reach Chilling, from there you will get to walk over frozen river ice.
Walking on the frozen ice will turn out to be the most exciting as well as toughest thing in the trek. After walking for 1hour you will reach Tilak: the campsite for today. The next day you move towards the Gyalpo camp. The morning walk on the frozen ice will make you feel like you are walking inside a freezer. Although all your body will be covered with heavy woolens still the coldness out there can be felt on your face. By the sound that the chadar makes you will be able to recognize where the snow is thick and where it is thin.
The sound of the chadar changes with the thickness of chadar. Moving further you will go through “Chadar Gate”. After walking for some 6 hours you will reach Gyalpo camp and stay in the tent for the night. The next day the Trek moves towards Dib cave and this would be the longest trek of the whole nine days trek.
In the way towards Did cave you will get to view many beautiful waterfalls. Most of those will be frozen due to the cold weather out there. At some points you may need to climb due o the breakage of ice. After walkinf for 8 hours you will reach Dib cave and rest for the night there. The next day you will walk towards Naerak Camp which will be around 7 hours trek.
On the way you will get to view “incense tree” which is used by the local people for doing their morning prayers. Also you will get to view a brigde that is high above the river and connects Zanskar and Ladhak. The campsite for the night will be in the huts. The next day trekking will be towards tibbs.
Here also the walk will be the same walking through the chadar. Actually the texture of chadar changes from time to time which makes the area looks and feel new every time. The next day you will trek towards Shingra Koma and then the next day back to Chilling and drive to Leh with a night stay in the guest room. The ninth day you return back from Leh cherishing all the beautiful memories you had in this nine day trek.
